An ordained minister in the Church of God of Prophecy, Rev. Creel was ordained as a Bishop in 1947. The family will receive friends at the North Rome Church of God on Wednesday evening from 5 until 7pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at each of their respective homes.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Rome, GA has charge of the funeral arrangements.

On a personal note, my mother (Ruby Brock) was the same age and close friends with Brother and Sister Creel. Bishop Creel served as Overseer of Alabama while my Mom was pastoring in Alabama. That makes the Creel children, Darrell and Donna, about my age. We worked together in youth camps many of my developmental years - memories I will cherish forever.

Bishop Creel's sister, Betty Love, was one of my Mom's fellow-pastors in Alabama when women pastors were not fully appreciated. They were close comrades. Zella Creel was an icon in the International Offices of the Church of God of Prophecy for many years. She dedicated her life in support of the ministry and leadership of M.A. Tomlinson.

This entire family had a positive impact on my life and ministry. I could relate many colorful stories about A.J. Creel, including the first tri-state camp in Mentone, Alabama. But on a serious note, I will forever remember and appreciate the leadership and encouragement this family provided for me and mine. My prayers are with the family. I will be at the funeral, and I will miss him dearly.

Our loss is heavens gain. It is with tearfull eyes I write these comments. It was Easter Sunday 1979 when Brother A. J. Creel preached about the death, buireal, and resurection of Jesus at the Oak Glen COGOP in Houston, TX. That was the first time that this Veit Nam Vetern (U.S.M.C.) heard the gospel. I was 30 years old and I ran to Jesus when Bro. Creel gave the invetation. Now, 30 years later, after having pastored for the past 27 years, I am pastoring the same Oak Glen COGOP where I met Jesus & A. J. Creel. There is no dought Brother Creel had a lasting impact on my life.

Hello Don. You are the first to inform me of Brother Creel's death. Thank you. Being in Virginia all of my married life has separated me from much that goes on in my home area. Brother Creel officiated at our wedding ceremony, so he has always held a special place in my heart. I too am flooded with memories of my childhood in Alabama and the wonderful Youth Camp experiences we all shared together under the inspired leadership of Brother and Sister Creel. Mentone's Tri State Youth Camp was a definite experience everyone there should cherish. Oak Mountain Youth Camps were a treasure as well. I've shared my appreciation with the Creel's many times concerning the opportunities of spiritual growth they made available to me in Youth Camps in Alabama and also in the Youth Life Team Training. The Creels are two people who definitely made an impact on my life as well. Phyllis Sides Cooper

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Bro. Creel. My wife Johnnie knew Bro. Creel, but I had only met him one time, which was probably 30 yrs ago. I beleive he was visiting in Alabama and I do not recall how it was that he came by our house. I was in my twenties at the time and was not serving the Lord. He came by and visited our home and asked if I would take him around to visit some of his relatives who lived near us. We were living near Dora at the time. As we rode around, he shared the joys of serving the Lord and ecouraged me change my life and serve the Lord. No one knows the impact that had on my life and I will never forget his love and kindness shown to me, a stranger. It is because of men like him, that changed my life and I am know pastoring in the COGOP in Alabama. I wanted the family to know what a blessing this man was in my life.

Thank You Pastor Don for informing of Bro. Creel's passing. Unfortunate for me, I don't ever recall meeting him but have heard his name many times as I grew up in COGOP. It was he and Sis. Love that formed the Church of Love in Grant that I'm so fortunate to pastor today. It was people like him that helped make COGOP what it is today. I praise God for people like him that helped pave the way for ministers like me. May God bless and comfort his family in this time of loss. Pastor Jeremy Wilson
