Some of us confuse forgiveness and accountability. When a perpetrator has committed a crime against us, he or she breaks the laws of God and of man and will suffer the consequences for it, whether in this life or the next. Is it possible to forgive someone for a rape, for example, but still take them to trial and prosecute them? Yes! Not only does the rapist need to be accountable for his crime, but other women need to be protected from his assaults in the future.
